Ingredients:
- 1 whole goose (approximately 4-5 kg)
- 4-5 medium apples, quartered
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh herbs for garnish
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
2. Wash the goose, remove any remaining feathers, and pat it dry with paper towels.
3. Season the inside and outside of the goose with salt and pepper.
4. Fill the cavity of the goose with quartered apples and onion.
5. Place the goose in a large roasting pan and coat its surface with butter.
6. Put the goose in the preheated oven and roast for approximately 2.5-3 hours until it has a golden crust and the meat is cooked. Periodically baste the goose with the drippings to keep it juicy.
7. When the goose is ready, remove it from the oven, let it rest for a while, and then carve it into portions.
8. Serve with the apples and onions used for stuffing. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
