Ingredients:
- 2-3 mackerel, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 1 liter of water
- 100 g salt
- 100 g sugar
- 100 ml vinegar
- 1 bay leaf
- 5-6 black peppercorns
- 2-3 cloves
- 1 small carrot, sliced into rounds
- 1 onion, sliced into rings
- A bunch of dill or parsley for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil, add salt, sugar, vinegar, bay leaf, black peppercorns, and cloves. Wait for the salt and sugar to dissolve completely.
2. Add the sliced carrots and onions to the boiling brine, and cook them for about 5-7 minutes.
3. Submerge the mackerel pieces in the boiling brine and cook them over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
4. Let the fish cool in the brine.
5. Arrange the mackerel and vegetables on a plate, garnish with fresh dill or parsley.
6. Serve the mackerel in brine pieces as a standalone dish or as an appetizer.
